Your food is harvested within 24 hours of you receiving it!  Grown using organic methods, preserving the nutrients and live enzymes that often are lost in transport.

-Most food in the grocery stores (organic or                                               conventional) is picked 4-7 days and travels an average                           of 1500 mi before it reaches grocery store shelves, and                           that’s just US grown!

We make it convenient !  You can pick up your weekly box of fresh produce at the farmers market or the farm.  Your food won’t travel outside a 50 mi radius; now that’s local, grandma style.

-9% of America’s  total energy consumption is used to

Produce, process and transport our food.

Us and You.  Local food supports local families!    CSA means farm families can afford to work at home.  It’s a form of direct marketing so the farmers gets a fair price for their hard work and produce while  the consumers stay healthy!

-Less than 1% of Americans still claim farming as their                           primary occupation.  The average farmer today gets less                           than 10 cents of the retail food dollar.

Supporting young farmers.  Your primary farmers are still under the age of 35 and enthusiastic about farming as a lifestyle and raising their families on the farmstead.

-Only 6% of that1% of Americans who still claim                                      farming as their primary occupation are under the age of                            35.

Fast Food, but not that Fast.  Your food will always be harvested and distributed within 12-36 hours.  You will taste that the varieties of food we select to grow are mainly for flavor; they are not genetically altered for shelf life or durability in the cross-country trek they would have to endure in the back of a semi when coming from California.

                      - In 1970 Americans spent about $6 billion on fast food,                           in 2000, they spent more than $10 billion.  Americans                           now spend more money on fast food than on higher                                 education, personal computers, computer software, or                            new cars.  They spend more on fast food than on movies,                           books, magazines,     newspapers, videos, and recorded                           music combined.  (Eric Schlosser, Fast Food Nation)

Encouraging you to Cook!  We love to share recipes and have potlucks throughout the season.  Try cooking something new!

-A generation ago, 3/4 of the money used to buy food in                           the US was spent to prepare meals at home.  Today about                           1/2 of the money used to buy food is spent at                                              restaurants-    mainly fast food restaurants. (Eric                                       Schlosser, Fast Food Nation

Fair and Square  By supporting Small Family Farms and CSA’s you’re helping the farmer get a fair price by paying him or her directly, cutting out the middlemen and the need to sell everything at wholesale.

-”The farmer is the only man [or woman!] in our                                      economy who buys everything at retail, sells everything                           at wholesale, and pays the freight both ways.”  -John F.                           Kennedy

A farmer’s Creed

I believe a man’s greatest possession is his dignity and that no calling bestows this more abundantly than farming.

I believe hard work and honest sweat are the building blocks of a person’s character.

I believe that farming, despite it’s hardships and disappointments, is the most honest and honorable way a man can spend his days on this earth.

I believe that farming nurtures the close family ties that make life rich in ways that money can’t buy.

I believe my children are learning values that will last a lifetime and can be learned in no other way.

I believe farming provides education for life and that no other occupation teaches so much about birth, growth and maturity in such a variety of ways.

I believe many of the best things in life are indeed free:  the splendor of a sunrise, the rapture of wide open spaces, the exhilarating sight of your land greening each spring.

I believe true happiness comes from watching your crops ripen in the field, your children grow tall in the sun, your whole family feel the pride that springs from their shared experience.

I believe that by my toil I am giving more to the world than I am taking from it, an honor that does not come to all men.

I believe my life will be measured ultimately by what I have done for my fellowman, and by this standard I fear no judgment.

I believe when a man grows old and sums up his days, he should be able to stand tall and feel pride in the life he’s lived.

I believe in farming because it makes all this possible.
